David's story
David Good has been supporting our work over many decades, and David has also chosen to leave a gift to the Soil Association in his Will, as his late wife Ann had done in hers.
David recalls living near Lady Eve’s farm in Suffolk, and hearing about her revolutionary organic methods. “I was interested and intrigued, so one day I stopped by,” David says. That meeting kickstarted his lifelong relationship with the Soil Association.
Determined to take action, David became a Soil Association member in the 1960s. He even helped form and became secretary of a branch in Cambridge where he worked as a river design engineer. “As soon as we married, we moved into a property with a large garden, installed a compost heap and gardened organically.” David says.
“I want the Soil Association’s vitally important work to continue after I’m gone.”
David then became and remains in later life, a keen gardener. He enjoys a deep connection to nature and believes that “our understanding of the soil is of the utmost importance.” and therefore decided to support the future work of the Soil Association by pledging a gift in his Will.
“Lady Eve Balfour had enormous forethought,” David says. “And I’m also very impressed with Helen Browning who I believe is the right person to lead the Soil Association today. As a farmer, she brings it to life. Human ignorance and neglect have had drastic consequences for our precious planet, and throughout my long membership I have realised how very important the work of the Soil Association is in all its many facets. Now more than ever.”
