Tom Curtis
Land Trust Trustee
Tom’s background is in forestry, farming and mixed estate management. He leads the Sustainable Landscapes practice area at 3Keel, a sustainability consultancy based in Oxford, where he is a founding Partner.
Tom work's to bring together clusters of independent businesses, in order to create a diversified farm system and a more resilient business model. This has evolved into the Land Partnerships approach and handbook. This is an approach being promoted by the Fresh Start land enterprise centre, a social enterprise supporting new entrants into farming, where Tom is also a non-executive Director.
Tom is also involved in policy-level work. This includes the development of land management strategies for conservation NGOs, and in more commercially focused work, linking supply chains and other economic forces to sustainable land management practices. A current focus is on the development of the Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) programme being developed in partnership with a range of corporate, NGO, academic and government partners.
Underpinning all of Tom’s work is an understanding that the future of our food system, our economy, and our culture is dependent on the land. This includes its system of soils, water, biological communities, and the people who work on it.
