Katy Jo Stanton
Senior Farming Advisor (Soil Health)
Katy Jo joined the Soil Association in January 2023. She is leading on two EU Soil Health Mission programmes (NBSoil and AI4SoilHealth), and contributes to other programmes transitioning farmers to agroecology, including Soil Association Exchange – a digital platform providing metrics and assessment approaches to assess the ecological health of a farm. She provides knowledge and advice on soil management and agroecological farming approaches to farmers, growers, policy makers and government and co-ordinates field labs within the Innovative Farmers programme.
Prior to joining the Soil Association, Katy Jo has a 20-year career in global design, marketing and communications before her soil and ecology obsession took over, and she completed an MSc in Land an Ecological Restoration at the Eden Project. Her final research explored the impact of regenerative farming techniques on soil health, which she presented at the World Congress of Soil Science 2022. For the past two years, Katy Jo has been a researcher at Eden Project Learning, on the ReCon Soil Project, conducting field, greenhouse and lab trials on soil reconstruction, soil health and amendment and plant growth and has been a volunteer consultant on soil health and agroecological approaches to farmers, food growers and tree nurseries in Cornwall.
