Claire is a Non-Executive Director at Soil Association Certification Limited. She is also Head of Legal at the John Lewis Partnership, having joined in 2019.

Claire started her legal career in a City law firm, moving in-house after five years. Since then she has worked in sectors as diverse as Government, finance, logistics and retail. Claire has a wealth of experience working with senior stakeholders on legal risk and compliance. She currently works with both the John Lewis and Waitrose brands, advising on regulation, commercial law, real estate, M&A, and disputes.

Her interest in the Soil Association Certification came about as a consequence of becoming more involved with the Leckford Estate in Hampshire where Waitrose owns 2,800 acres of land, much of which is used for sustainable farming. Claire became keen to learn more about the benefits of organic certification and was focussed on joining an ethical and purpose-led organisation.

Outside of work Claire enjoys being active. She is a qualified yoga instructor and ICF certified coach. She recently learned to sail, and lives on the coast where she swims and paddleboards year round.
