Alison Bond
Research Officer (Farming and Land Use)
Alison has rejoined us at the Soil Association to work on the animal welfare strand of the Ocado Farm to Fork partnership. Through this project, she will work with our team, farmers and scientists to finalise and apply evidence-based, assessment frameworks to identify and communicate the good aspects of welfare for farmed animals. This will look at the freedoms, opportunities and choices farmed animals have in their environment to express their natural behaviours, in addition to achieving good health and welfare outcomes.
Alison has a strong background in farm animal welfare assessment having worked with us previously as part of the AssureWel team, implementing welfare outcome assessment into certification schemes, including into the annual livestock inspections of our own scheme, Soil Association Certification. This followed her PhD at Bristol University investigating on-farm and abattoir assessments of pig welfare and the resulting effects on carcass and meat quality.
