As a certified organic farmer, you can only use inputs allowed by your certification body and the organic regulations.
Use the inputs directory below to find out which approved and verified inputs you can use on your farm.
Organic farming is a way of growing and producing food that works with nature. Any extra inputs should only be used when absolutely necessary and with justification.

Finding approved and verified inputs
You can search for:
- Fertilisers: These include liquid feeds, compound fertilisers, mineral fertilisers, trace elements, plant stimulants/tonics and liming agents.
- Composts: These include propagating media, mulches, mushroom substrates, composts suitable for organic potted herbs and soil conditioners.
- Microorganisms: These include grass and forage additives, slurry treatments, compost activators and soil nutrient availability enhancers.
- Livestock feed supplements: These include mineral supplements, boluses, aquaculture feed. Note: livestock feeds and supplements that contain organic agricultural ingredients must be certified to organic feed mill standards.
- Plant protection products: These products can only be verified.

The products listed below are approved and meet the requirements of the Soil Association Approved Inputs Standards.
Find verified inputs
The products listed below have been verified for use as inputs in organic systems. The scope of their authorisation is shown in the table.
- SA GB – Soil Association Organic Standards for Great Britain: SA higher standards with EC organic regulations retained in GB (834, 889, 1235).
- SA NI – Soil Association Organic Standards for Northern Ireland: SA higher standards with EC organic regulation 848.
You can only use the plant protection products listed above for pest and disease control when:
- there is an established threat to your crops and
- when plants cannot be adequately protected by preventative measures and practices described in standard 2.6.1.
It is your responsibility to check the products from the table above are authorised for use on the intended pest and crop in your country. In the UK, you can find a list of legally approved products and their specific use(s) on the Chemicals Regulation Directorate. Make sure that you follow all legal Health and Safety requirements when using these products.
