Small or low intensity managed forests
As long as the woodland or forest you manage meets certain criteria, you can get certification no matter what the size.
FSC® offers a lower cost option designed especially for small or low intensity managed forests (SLIMF).
Small forests: Forests of less than 100ha (or where approved by FSC <1000ha)
Low intensity managed forest: Forests where:
a) the rate of harvesting is less than 20% of the mean annual increment (MAI) within the total production forest area of the unit
and either
b) the annual harvest from the total production forest area is less than 5000 cubic metres,
or
c) the average annual harvest from the total production forest is less than 5000m3/ year during the period of validity of the certificate as verified by harvest reports and surveillance audits.
