FSA Consultation on Ashwagandha Food Supplements

FSA Consultation on Ashwagandha Food Supplements

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has launched a consultation on Ashwagandha food supplements.

If you manufacture, process, distribute, use, sell or import food supplements containing ashwagandha you may wish to participate in the FSA consultation.

The FSA website highlights that in the UK there are no safe levels established or set limits for its use in food supplements. The FSA are aware of potential risks to health from consuming ashwagandha in food supplements. They are issuing a call for evidence to support their request for a risk assessment from the Committee on Toxicity for ashwagandha. The purpose is to determine whether a safe level of ashwagandha for use in food supplements can be established, and assess the risks associated with consuming food supplements containing ashwagandha.

Please view the FSA webpage for full details.
