Reminder to ensure labelling changes required as a result of Brexit are made by 1 January 2024.

Brexit has meant some labelling changes for GB companies.

For organic product the change required by GB organic regulation is for pre-packed product to include a statement of agricultural origin identifying UK or non UK origin.

  • ‘UK Agriculture’ – if the agricultural ingredients are produced in the UK

  • ‘UK/Non-UK Agriculture’ – if product contains a mixture of agricultural ingredients grown in the UK and outside the UK

  • ‘Non-UK Agriculture’ – if the agricultural ingredients are produced outside the UK

  • You can replace UK, Non-UK with a particular country if all ingredients were farmed or grown there.

Read more the Defra guidance for organic labelling.

What action needs to be taken?

Existing labelling that is currently not compliant has until 31st December 2023 to be compliant.

Please note: There are other general labelling requirements (not specific to organic) such as pre-packaged food or caseins sold in GB being required to include a UK address for the FBO or importer (not an EU address). You can find more info on the government website.
