Reduced list of permitted non-organic agricultural ingredients in NI & EU
This requirement applies to food processors we license in Northern Ireland. This does not apply to food processors in GB.
The EU regulation 2018/848 requires that from 1st January 2024 only the following non-organic agricultural ingredients may be used in organic products produced in the EU & Northern Ireland. This is a much smaller list of ingredients than currently permitted.
You can view the current list of permitted non-organic agricultural ingredients under standard 6.6.1 of our standards.
If there are agricultural ingredients that do not appear on this list and are not available in organic form, you may only use them if you have a derogation from the Northern Ireland Competent Authority (NICA). Refer to standard 6.7.1 for details of how to obtain a derogation.
