Bird Flu housing order to be lifted

Organic poultry to be given access to outside areas from 18th April

The Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed that mandatory housing measures for poultry and captive birds, which were introduced across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to help stop the spread of bird flu, will be lifted from 00:01 on Tuesday 18 April 2023.

The lifting of the housing order means that organic birds must be given access to outside range areas from 18 April, unless they are still located within an identified Protection Zone.

Please use the upcoming days to prepare outside areas ready for letting your birds out. Good biosecurity measures should be maintained to minimise the risk of future outbreaks of avian influenza.
