Changes to sourcing requirements on some ingredients

Changes to ingredients which are now required to be sourced as organic

The GB regulation 889/2008 (applicable in GB) and EU regulation 2018/848 (applicable for Northern Ireland) both require that the following ingredients must now be sourced as organic (as of January 1st 2022):

  • E417 Tara Gum Powder

  • E422 Glycerol/Glycerine

  • E903 Carnauba wax

If you are using any of these ingredients you must now be sourcing an organic version. If you have not already done so, you will need to update your products specification and resubmit multi-ingredient specifications (MIPS) to us. Your labels will also need updating at your next print run to identify the change to an organic ingredient.

You can find suppliers of these ingredients using our organic product supplier search.

The permitted use of non-organic Gellan Gum has been extended until 1st January 2023.

If you need any further information, or are experiencing difficulties making the switch please contact the certification team at food.drink@soilassociation.org
