National avian influenza prevention zone
The government have declared a 'national prevention zone' following recent outbreaks of avian influenza (bird flu)
This means that whether you keep just a few birds or thousands, you're now legally required to meet enhanced biosecurity requirements to protect both your birds and wild birds from this highly infectious disease.
To reduce the risk of cross contamination, Soil Association Certification will delay physical inspections on poultry farms with more than 50 birds. If you have more than 50 birds and an inspection arranged in the next few weeks, you'll be contacted to arrange a new date when the inspection can take place. Please contact your Certification Officer if you have any concerns.
