Government dairy support schemes to open for farmers in England and Wales

Applications for new dairy support schemes in England and Wales will open on Thursday 18th June to support dairy farmers in overcoming the impact of COVID-19.

Eligible dairy farmers will be able to access up to £10,000 each to cover 70% of their lost income during April and May. Farmers in England and Wales that have lost 25% or more of their April 2020 average price paid per litre - compared to February 2020 - will be able to apply through either the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) or Rural Payments Wales (RPW) for a single payment.

Further details on the fund and application process will be shared by the RPA and RPW in the coming weeks. Eligible farmers can get ready to apply now by preparing details, including milk statements, for February, April and May 2020. At present, there has been no announcement of equivalent support for dairy farmers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

More information can be found on the English and Welsh Government websites.
