Organic Aquaculture Products from Norway
Due to a delay in implementing & agreeing upon the current EU organic Regulations (EC) 834/2007 and 889/2008 across the EEA countries, the European Commission has withdrawn its approval for organic aquaculture products produced in Norway. So as of 3rd August 2016 organic aquaculture products cannot be certified in Norway to EU Regulations and bear the EU logo. This means they also cannot be imported into the EU as organic.
Defra has confirmed that new certificates issued by Debio in Norway for all aquaculture products certified to “EU standards” are not valid and not acceptable.
All stock that was imported into the EU before 3rd August can be used up, and sold as EU organic. No new stock can be imported as organic until further notice.
