Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) Packaging

This is a reminder that Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) originating from GM crops is not permitted for use in packaging of Soil Association certified products (standard 41.06.02). To allow licensees time to seek PLA from non GM crops, or to make changes to their packaging, we have previously issued exceptional permissions, however after the expiry of any existing permissions these will not be renewed, nor any new ones issued.

For those licensees that had a permission granted, existing stocks can be used up for products packed up until and including the expiry date. After this alternative compliant  materials now need to be sought for new products bearing the SA symbol.
