Inlight Beauty
Inlight Beauty is a certified brand based in Cornwall, that uses 100% certified organic ingredients in its formulations.
Dr Mariano Spiezia, the brand's founder, talks to us about how using organic botanicals allows the brand to "listen to nature".
We know certified organic beauty and wellbeing is better for people and the planet- but what, in particular, lead you to originally certify with Soil Association Certification?
We had our first certification when there were yet to be defined standards in the beauty industry – in fact our first products were certified by the Soil Association Certification following rules/standards set out for the food industry (fortunately all our ingredients were 100% organic and food grade because our skin deserves the best too!)
At that time, in my studies and research as a medical doctor and herbalist, the connection between many human diseases and chemicals was very clear (often relatable to cosmetics) as well as of course other factors such as environmental pollution. I decided, in formulating my skincare range, to use only 100% organic ingredients to be in line with my philosophy and vision of life and give my contribution to a better, healthier world. To achieve this goal, together with my wife, we chose to be certified by the Soil Association COSMOS, to give people and customers the guarantee and the reinsurance that what we were doing was checked and publicly recognised.
How does your brand “Listen to Nature”, and how will you be doing so this Organic Beauty & Wellbeing Week?
Inlight for me is an “echo” of Nature’s perfection. All the ingredients I have chosen for my formulations are pure and untouched nature. Herbs, flowers, roots and cold pressed oils are carefully infused and mixed in our artisan production, which involves a clear ‘slow beauty approach’. This includes the exposure to sun and moon (as well as “the human factor”) to interfere as little as possible with the raw power nature has to offer. The “human factor” also plays an important role in this unique production process. This is the base of all our skincare products. I have always been passionate and curious with the natural world, for me listening to it means respecting it and learning from it.
These messages will all be reinforced during Organic Beauty & Wellbeing Week. We can all learn from Nature if we just stop and listen to her voice, making more conscious choices in our everyday lives.
How do you think we can get more consumers to “listen to nature” by opting for certified organic beauty and wellbeing products?
In this world where there are so many untrue claims and fake news and unfortunately, greenwashing, real Nature is like a lighthouse bringing us in from the ‘darkness’. Consumers need transparency from brands as well as to feel (and see) first hand, the importance and beneficial properties of nature. Awarding bodies such as Soil Association Certification are a great tool to give us that confidence of origin and purity.
