The Soil Association: dedicated to developing a planet-friendly food culture

The Soil Association exists to research, develop and promote sustainable relationships between the soil, plants, animals, people and the biosphere, in order to produce healthy food and other products while protecting and enhancing the environment.
  • We are the leading charity promoting planet-friendly food and farming.
  • We develop and uphold the highest standards of organic integrity. Our symbol denotes products you can trust.
  • We campaign for safer, healthier produce and production methods.
Join us in challenging chemical-based, intensive agriculture and championing local and organic sustainable production instead.

Campaigning on the issues you care about
Building public awareness to influence government and industry attitudes to issues like:
    • Genetic engineering in food
    • Animal welfare
    • Pesticides
    • Threat to wildlife from intensive agriculture
    • Antibiotics
    • Closure of small abattoirs
    • Harmful effects of intensive farming on food quality and safety
    • Setting standards to ensure the integrity of organic food and other products.

Certification and inspection
The Soil Association symbol can be found on over 70% of Britain's organic produce - a guarantee that it has been grown or produced to the highest standards of organic integrity. We also undertake certification of timber and wood products.

Soil Association Certification Ltd enforces these standards through certification and regular inspections of producers, processors and suppliers.

Market development
Promoting organic food so that people everywhere will have the opportunity to buy and eat organic, be it from a local market, a box scheme, a corner shop or supermarket.
