Stock person for smallholding in Devon

05 March 2013

We are looking for a hardworking, organised and neat stockperson / farmhand who can work on their own initiative.

We have a 26 acre smallholding in the Blackdown Hills in mid Devon, rearing cattle, sheep, and pigs for a meat box scheme. I would love to convert the farm to Biodynamics and make it a whole organism. But I need help. We already run a no-spray, low intervention policy with our animals and land, but I would like to look at taking it all further.

I would need someone to look after and rotate stock, keep up with fencing and hedgelaying, haymake, bale, etc. The work is not tricky, but you need to be able to walk about with your eyes open and see what needs to be done. The work is physical, so you will need to be fit and strong. You will also need to be able to manage your own time efficiently. You would work five days a week with the occasional weekend. I'm afraid there is no accommodation with this post.
