How can I be sure that organic products from abroad are really organic?

If a product from abroad carries the Soil Association symbol you can be sure it will have been produced to equivalent standards, even if it contains ingredients from many countries. Our certification equivalence database sees to this.

The EU regulation 90/91 ensures all organic food produced in Europe meets an agreed standard. This also covers food being imported into Europe.

Outside Europe, international bodies such as the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM) encourages certification bodies to work to similar high standards.

Note that all food being imported into Europe will have to meet the EU organic regulation.
