Fecal Egg Counts
The Soil Association is pleased to be able to offer a Faecal Egg Counts (FEC) service in association with Graig Producers for our members to benefit from.
As one of our producers reminded us "if you can't measure it, you can't manage it" and therefore accurate, reliable data is a key component in backing up your ‘gut instinct' on how your stock are performing.
FEC are not only good management practice but are also required to justify the use of a wormer to your certification body in many cases - please call your Certification Officer (CO) for more details. Lastly it is advisable that if you do worm a batch of animals, follow this up with a FEC test several days after the treatment to see the efficancy of the wormer used, and this will help identify any issues with resistance also.
By working with Graig and one of their members who have diversified on their own sheep farm to offer this service, we know we are offering a competitive and reliable service, run by people that understand livestock farms. The Soil Association Producer Support teams have also put together the factsheet (right) to help interperate the results for best practice, and if a member you are always welcome to call us and discuss over the phone also.
Tests are available from only £13.50 +vat (members) and test results can be emailed directly to you within 24 hours of receipt. A example results forms is pictured below - click on this to view a larger image.
If you have any questions or to purchase a test/s over the phone please call the Producer Support team on 0117 314 5100. Alternatively purchase quickly and easily online - click here to buy.
