Sheffield Organic Growers,Lightwood Lane, Sheffield, S8 8BG

5.2 Hectares of horticulture. Sheffield Organic Growers is a cluster of four independent organic vegetable and fruit growers, operating under a Soil Association Collective License. One grower is a community-led CSA, the others supply produce to their own box schemes and to other local outlets. Infrastructure, equipment and other resources are shared but each grower makes their own business decisions about what to grow and how to market their produce. This model enables growers to start in business without needing much capital, and as each grower can learn from and help each other, it is a more co-operative and positive way of working! Please visit www.sheffieldorganicgrowers.co.uk for more information.

Things were ok until about 10 years ago when yields started to drop even though he used increasing amounts of expensive chemical fertilisers.
