Farm Background: We are a mixed organic farm of approximately 660 acres , organic since 2001. Our main enterprises are beef, sheep, pigs and arable. We have been farming under an environmental scheme since 2003, first we had a CSS agreement and now have signed up for a HLS, where we have a vast area of flower margins and half the land managed for breeding and over wintering waders in the Soar Valley. We produce our own animal feed and grow all cereals and pulses for both pigs and cattle.  We have recently converted an old barn into a cafe/farm shop, where we use as many of our own products as possible.

Attendance is free but advanced booking is absolutely essential. We will send out directions prior to the walk.

Holly Black: In the UK the average farmer is 58 years old, which presents our nation with a big challenge. Not only does this suggest that farming is often not seen as a desirable career choice for young people in the UK, but some farmers of this age can find themselves ‘technologically challenged’ due to their generational relationship with technology. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not tarnishing all farmers with the same brush – many farmers and growers out there are extremely technologically adept – and not all of them are young in age.
