Mark Stay,3 Somerton Road,  North Aston, Oxon, OX25 6HP

Farm Background: We rent land from North Aston Farms (850 acres of organic grassland for beef and sheep plus a separate micro dairy enterprise). We grow most vegetables and some culinary herbs. Marketing is diverse, but mainly through a flexible box scheme. We have 1300m2 of polytunnel and 120m2 glasshouse where we raise all our own transplants. We operate a no dig system in our main multispan tunnel. For more information, please visit www.northastonorganics.co.uk

Attendance is free but advanced booking is absolutely essential. We will send out directions prior to the walk.

When the north wind doth blow...

Margaret Finlay: It’s not just dairy cattle here at Rainton, we also have a flock of about 500 sheep, mostly Scotch Mule ewes - a cross between a Scottish Blackface ewe and a Blue Faced Leicester tup. The crossbred ewe is supposed to embody the best bits of the each breed - hardiness and good natural mothering, and prolificness with good milk production respectively. The southwest of Scotland where the farm is located, is generally accepted to have a ‘maritime’ climate, with cool summers and mild winters - warmer and wetter than the east is a common description. Not this March.
